Rugby Europe Championship: Portugal vs Spain

On March 29, 2025, in Cartaxo, the Portuguese Women’s National Rugby Team played its first match in the Women’s Rugby Europe Championship 2025. At the Municipal Stadium of Cartaxo, Portugal was defeated by Spain, 7–19.

Portugal’s only points came from a try by Elsa Santos and a successful conversion by Daniela Correia. For Spain, Clàudia Peña Hidalgo scored two tries and Alba Vinuesa García added one more, with Amàlia Argudo Llobregat converting twice.

This was Portugal’s only home match in this edition of the tournament. The team will now play two away games, against the Netherlands and Sweden.

Portugal is currently ranked 25th in the world, while Spain holds 13th place. This marks the second consecutive appearance by the “Lobas” (She-Wolves) in the European Championship. Last season, they secured their place in the top division with a 27–0 win over Sweden in the final match.

The match was attended by around 400 spectators and officiated by Welsh referee Amber Stamp-Dunstan. It was broadcast live on Rugby Europe TV.
