Portuguese Athletics Championships: time for records

On July 26th the 2026’ Portuguese Athletics Championships (Campeonatos de Portugal) concluded in Lisbon. The event ran from July 24 to 26 at Estádio Universitário de Lisboa, organized by the Portuguese Athletics Federation with the Lisbon Athletics Association and Lisbon City Council, closing out the 2025/26 national season with nearly 700 athletes.

Day one was marked by Fatoumata Diallo winning the 400m hurdles in a championship-record 54.46, edging fellow record co-holder Sofia Lavreshina. Second day brought a wheelchair T54 100m world record from Mamudo Baldé (13.49) and a Portuguese/championship 100m record from Tatjana Pinto (11.02), plus a ninth discus title for Liliana Cá with a championship-record 64.08m.

On the closing day, deaf high jumper Gustavo Pereira improved his own Portuguese record by four centimetres, and Jéssica Inchude broke the championship shot put record en route to her seventh national title. Salomé Afonso won the women’s 800m for the seventh time, while Isaac Nader claimed the men’s 800m for a third title, finishing in 1:46.11. Tsanko Arnaudov took his 11th national shot put title, his fifth in a row, and Mariana Bento defended her heptathlon crown with 5,597 points for a fourth straight win.

Overall across three days, the meet delivered one world record, two Portuguese records, one U23 national record and five championship records.
