Iberian Rugby Cup: Belenenses Rugby defeat El Salvador Rugby at Restelo to claim second title
On Sunday, January 11th, team Belenenses (Lisbon) won the Iberian Rugby Cup, defeating El Salvador (Valladolid) at the Restelo Stadium, Lisbon.
Strong wind brought the element of unrpedictability, with first halftime ending 10-3 and the second at 23-9, to the noticable pleasure of the hosting crowds.
It is the second Iberian title for the team Belenenses, the first being won in 2022/23 season. El Salvador currently has 5 victories. The club currently holding the most wins in the cup is VRAC, with 8 titles. Overall competition score is Spain 28 – 18 Portugal.
The Iberian Rugby Cup is a knock-out competition played annually by clubs of the Spanish Rugby Federation and Portuguese Rugby Federation. It commenced in 1965 and the current competition being formed in 2009.
