Leca Chess Open 2024

Yesterday, August 3, the 5th round of the international Leca Chess Open 2024 took place in Leca da Palmeira, Portugal. This open chess tournament has been held annually since 2022. All rounds this year are hosted at the Leca da Palmeira Pavilion, in the municipality of Matosinhos.

The event is open to players rated over 1400 FIDE. The total prize fund is €6,500. Winners are determined by total points, with tiebreaks (Buchholz, Sonnenborn-Berger, and others) applied if necessary.

Anti-cheating procedures follow FIDE regulations and are supported by the tournament’s partners, including FPX and ChessResults. The tournament is organized by the Chess Department of the Leça Basketball Sports Group, with the support of the Matosinhos City Council and the Matosinhos-Leça Parish Council..

The tournament follows a 9-round Swiss format with a time control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds per move. Play runs from July 31 to August 8, with the final 9th round scheduled for Thursday, August 8 at 14:30 (local time).
