The Valencia Marathon is considered one of the fastest in the world, holding the Platinum Label from World Athletics and offering some of the highest prize money in international road racing. With its completely flat course and mild weather, it is widely regarded as one of the best marathons for setting personal records.
Kenya’s Sebastian Kimaru Sawe, competing in his marathon debut, proved exactly that by clocking the fastest time of the year and the fifth-fastest in history — behind only Kelvin Kiptum, Eliud Kipchoge, Kenenisa Bekele, and Sisay Lemma.
The event was supported by over 2,000 volunteers, and the energy of thousands of fans lining the streets turned Valencia into a true human corridor — reminiscent of a Tour de France stage.
This year, SD Correcaminos, the marathon’s organizing body, announced a €1,000,000 donation to support victims of the floods in Valencia, with the funds going toward the reconstruction of homes and infrastructure.
