Oriente Longboard Classic Opens National Circuit in Matosinhos
The Porto&Matosinhos Wave Series hosted the Oriente Longboard Classic surfing competition on 30 and 31 May, with António Dantas, Carolina Mendes, and Duarte Barata taking the top honours in the Open, Feminine, and Under-18 categories respectively.
The competition marks the first of four stages of the Circuito Nacional de Longboard 2026, which will ultimately determine the national champions across the three categories. Over the two days, some of the country’s leading longboarders were in action, in a competition designed to combine competitive sport with the discipline’s characteristic identity — marked by style, fluidity, and a connection to the ocean.
Dantas, the reigning national champion in the Open category, continued his dominance of the discipline. Carolina Mendes, who was crowned national champion in the Feminine category in November 2025, opened the new season with another victory. Duarte Barata, who had a consistent presence on the Under-18 podium in recent seasons, also claimed top spot in the category.
The Porto&Matosinhos Wave Series is organised by Onda Pura Surf Center in collaboration with the municipalities of Porto and Matosinhos and technical support from the Federação Portuguesa de Surf. 2026 marks the 12th edition of the event.
The National Longboard curcuit continues with three further stages scheduled throughout the year, the next stage is set to commence on 13th of June in Espinho.
