EDP Porto Marathon 2024
On December 3, 2024, the city of Porto hosted the 20th edition of the EDP Porto Marathon. In addition to the classic 42.2 km marathon, the event also included a 10 km family race and a 6 km fun run, as in previous years.
The start and finish lines were located next to the Queimódromo, in the Porto City Park. The marathon course ran along the Douro River, passing its scenic banks, crossing the Dom Luís I Bridge, and passing through the municipalities of Matosinhos and Vila Nova de Gaia.
Results – Marathon (42.2 km):
Men:
Emmanuel Kemboi — 2:14:14
Simion Tarus — 2:14:41
Ashenafi Boja — 2:15:24
Women:
Tejitu Siyum Alemayehu — 2:32:06
Sinke Dessie — 2:36:18
Mildred Chepkemei — 2:44:33
This year, around 3,500 runners took part in the marathon, and the total number of participants across all three distances exceeded 10,000. All races started simultaneously. The marathon course was officially certified as a qualifier for European, World, and Olympic championships.
The choice of a route crossing Porto, Matosinhos, and Gaia reflects an effort to highlight the contrast and architectural identity of each municipality. Despite strong competition, none of the winners surpassed the course records, which remain at 2:08:58 (men) and 2:26:58 (women).
The EDP Porto Marathon once again confirmed its reputation as one of the most prestigious and well-organized events on both the national and international running calendars. The certified course offers athletes an opportunity to achieve qualifying times for the world’s most important competitions.
