Benfica defeat HC Maia 11–4 in Women's Roller Hockey National Championship

SL Benfica’s women’s roller hockey side claimed a convincing home win on Sunday, March 29th at the Pavilhão Fidelidade in Lisbon, beating HC Maia 11–4 in the fifth round of the first phase of the National Championship.

The opening period saw Benfica take an early lead. Sofia Moncóvio opened the score at the second minute and added further goals at the third, sixth and ninth minutes, finishing as the game’s top scorer with four goals. Maria Sofia Silva also made impact on scoring at the sixth minute. The scoreboard at half-time read 6–2.

Benfica continued to add to their tally in the second period. Sara Roces converted a penalty at the 24th minute, Marlene Sousa added another point from the spot at the 38th, and Raquel Santos struck twice — at the 40th and 47th minutes. Aimée Blackman rounded off the scoring with goals at the 42nd and 45th minutes. HC Maia contributed two goals of their own in the second half, bringing their tally to four.

Benfica remains one of Portugal’s most decorated roller hockey clubs, with 24 national league titles to their name. HC Maia, based in the northern city of Maia, are a regular presence in the top tier of the women’s roller hockey Championship.
