Xadrez Nationals: Ana Inês Silva opens the week with women’s rapid gold

On August 31, 2025, Matosinhos (Portugal) hosted the Portuguese Women’s Rapid (Rápidas) Championship, staged at the Antiga Fábrica de Conservas Vasco da Gama as part of the Xadrez – Campeonatos Nacionais week under the Matosinhos – European City of Sport 2025 banner.

WFM Ana Inês Silva (CX A2D) retained the national rapid title with 5.5 points out of 6 games — that is five wins and one draw (in chess scoring, a win is 1 point and a draw is 0.5). She drew only with her sister, WFM Mariana Silva (Vitória SC), who finished third with 4.5/6. Veronika Ryabukhina (GX Alekhine) placed second on 5/6, her only loss coming against the champion in Round 3. The tournament brought together 22 players in quick-chess games.
